Mission
The Matthew Jacoby Library supports the College’s mission by providing access to diverse academic resources, fostering research and learning through responsive services, and cultivating a welcoming environment for discovery, collaboration, and growth.
History
Fr. Matthew Jacoby, SVD, was the first director of the Â鶹´«Ã½ library from its beginning in 1964 until his retirement in 1976. That same year the library was named in his honor. He continued to live at Â鶹´«Ã½ until 1986 when he joined the retirement community at Techny, Illinois. Fr. Jacoby passed away in the summer of 1990.
Fr. Jacoby, a native of Milwaukee, was ordained as a Â鶹´«Ã½ Missionary priest in 1932. He is remembered by area citizens for the many hours he devoted teaching youngsters to swim in the Â鶹´«Ã½ swimming pool.
To honor his work in the community, the Epworth City Council has named the road in front of the college "Jacoby Drive."
Visitor Information
The Library is open to Dubuque County residents and students and faculty from area colleges. Visitors enter through the College’s front entrance. The library is located on the 2nd floor. All visitors wishing to borrow library materials must register for a library card with a valid form of ID. Hours for outside visitors are from 8 AM to 4:30 PM.

The main library houses over 50,000 items including fiction books, non-fiction books, reference books, atlases, DVDs, and special collections. It has communal study areas, individual study desks, and public use computers. There is another library space down the hall from the main library. It houses over print journals, newspapers, and magazines. The room also has two communal study desks and a public use computer.

Â鶹´«Ã½ has a reciprocal borrowing agreement with the following libraries at nearby schools: Loras College, Clarke University, Emmaus Bible College, Wartburg Seminary, Northeast Iowa Community College, and Wartburg Seminary.
What does reciprocal borrowing mean?
You can get a library card at the above libraries. Borrowing is typically limited to books. Each borrowing agreement is slightly different. Ask your Â鶹´«Ã½ librarians if you need assistance getting a library card at a nearby school.
